Consider A Resolution Adopting A Public Art Policy.

BACKGROUND:

The Public Art Policy was drafted by Staff in 2013, in conjunction with the Addison Arbor Foundation, and has served as the unofficial policy for accepting, displaying, acquiring and maintaining works in the Town of Addison. Council action on this item will make the Public Art Policy an official Town document.

Public Art has been identified and encouraged in the 2013 Town of Addison Comprehensive Plan and through the long-range vision for the Town in the 2020 and 2030 Strategic Vision Plan.

The 2030 Vision Project placed public art and design aesthetics in the recommended "A" list priorities. The vision states, "recommit Addison to the promotion and installation of design aesthetics in all public spaces to include landscaping and public art. "Design matters" is a phrase the 2030 Committee members used repeatedly in this regard."

The 2020 Vision Project 'encourages the development of the Arts and art in public spaces' and the 2013 Comprehensive Land Use Plan has a goal of "incorporating public art into the community in a way that is strategic, selective, and impactful.

RECOMMENDATION:

Administration recommends approval.
