Present and Discuss Code Compliance Issues and Strategies For Hotels Including Budget Suites of America Located At 15130 Marsh Lane.

BACKGROUND:

Over the past two years, the City Council has held numerous meetings to discuss strategies for addressing hotels that are not meeting the community's expectations. Through these discussions, the City Council worked to define the issue and develop strategies to address it. In June 2017, Council requested that staff focus on Budget Suites of America, located at 15130 Marsh Lane. Specifically, staff was asked to investigate whether the property is in violation of its zoning because the company provides lodging for longer periods of time than are typical of hotels. Staff presented its initial findings at a Work Session in October 2017. Based on that discussion, Council asked staff a series of follow up questions.

Staff has researched the issue further based on Council's questions, will present its findings, and propose next steps for Council to consider. Staff will provide a brief presentation and seek direction from the Council. Additional information can be found in the attached presentation.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff requests direction from Council.
