Presentation of Recognition for the Addison Fire Department Receiving a Class 1 Rating by the Insurance Services Office (ISO).

BACKGROUND:

Fire protection in the Town of Addison has received the highest Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating awarded by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) and approved by the Texas Department of Insurance.

An ISO rating is used by most insurance companies to predict and analyze risk when establishing insurance premiums. Approximately 49,000 fire departments around the country are evaluated and classified every 10 years by the ISO, a risk management firm for the insurance industry, using the PPC program. Departments are scored on a scale from 1 to 10. Communities with the very best systems for water distribution, fire suppression, and communication systems receive a rating of 1.

Addison joins 58 other communities in Texas in achieving a Class 1 rating with only 305 Class 1 ratings nationwide. Ultimately, this recognition of Addison’s outstanding fire protection means better fire protection and lower property insurance rates. The effective date of the new classification is August 1, 2018.

Prior to the announcement, Addison’s PPC rating had been a Class 2. Town officials in Addison have recognized the economic benefits of a lower PPC rating and have made several improvements. Some of these improvements include increased staffing, updated apparatus, regional consolidation and the formation of the North Texas Emergency Communications Center and the Joint Fire Training Facility. Additionally, the infrastructure improvements included a 1.5-million gallon elevated water storage facility and continued repair and replacement of aging water system components to provide water coverage for the entire city.
