Present, Discuss and Consider Action on Providing Additional Funding to Metrocrest Services, Inc in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

BACKGROUND:

Metrocrest Services submitted an application to the Town requesting $66,120 for Fiscal Year 2020. During the Council Meeting on September 10, 2019, Council discussed grant funding allocations for multiple non-profits included in the Fiscal Year 2020 budget. During the discussion about Metrocrest Services, Council directed staff to grant Metrocrest Services their requested amount of $66,120.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resident demands for assistance from Metrocrest Services have dramatically increased. Since the middle of March 2020, Metrocrest Services has seen significant increases in demand for food and rent assistance. In their letter requesting additional funding, Metrocrest Services CEO Tracy Eubanks mentions that for Addison specifically, families visited the Food Pantry 189 times in April, 302% over last year and they are projecting to spend $73,232 on food for April through July specifically for Addison families. The letter also mentions that concerning rent assistance, Metrocrest Services has served 22 Addison families in April, 144% over last year. They are projecting serving 92 Addison families with rent assistance over the next four months at a cost of $55,200.

Therefore, Metrocrest Services is requesting $85,000 in one-time Emergency Funding to assist with costs associated with providing Food, Housing Support, Employment Assistance, and other services such as gas cards, education, and job training for Addison residents.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff requests direction from Council.
