AGENDA CAPTION:

Consider Action on a Resolution Approving an Interlocal Agreement Between the Town of Addison and Dallas County for the Household Hazardous Waste Program and Authorizing the City Manager to Execute the Agreement in an Amount Not to Exceed $15,000.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this item is to approve an interlocal agreement between the Town of Addison and Dallas County (County) for continuation of the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program.

The County partners with cities in Dallas County to properly dispose of HHW such as paint, oil, herbicides, and various other chemicals. This minimizes the disposal of household hazardous waste in storm water sewers and landfills through reuse, recycling, education, collection, and disposal.

The Town has participated in the HHW Program with the County for over 10 years. The current HHW interlocal agreement between Addison and the County was signed in 2017 and expired on September 30, 2022. The proposed interlocal agreement is a one-year agreement with four one-year renewal options that are exercised by mutual agreement of the Town and the County.

This agreement allows Addison single-family residents to dispose of their HHW by dropping it off at the collection facility located at 11234 Plano Road in northeast Dallas, by calling the Public Works & Engineering Department, or scheduling a pickup online via the Bulk/Brush/HHW Collection Request form. Residents in the multifamily communities can also drop off their HHW at the collection facility in Plano.

This program is budgeted in the Fiscal Year 2023 Stormwater Fund.

RECOMMENDATION:

Administration recommends approval.
