AGENDA CAPTION:

Consider Action on a Resolution Approving an Entertainment Agreement Between the Town of Addison and SPJ Productions LTD for the Personal Services of Musicians and Authorizing the City Manager to Execute the Contract in an Amount Not to Exceed $130,000.

BACKGROUND:

The Town is using the professional services of Degy Booking International, Inc. to negotiate and secure performing talent for Town of Addison events. The company's reputation for securing and routing talent is highly regarded in the industry. This is the Town's fourth year using the agency's services, and the Town has been pleased with its ability to secure talent within the parameters of our music genres, the artists' routing availability, and remain within budget. As the talent producer, a representative of Degy Booking International, Inc. will be onsite for all performances booked through the agency. The fee for the company's services is 10% of the band's proceeds, with no commission from the gate or merchandise sales.

The music artist previously contracted to perform on Friday evening at Taste Addison 2022 canceled the contract due to a conflict with filming for a movie project. The new artist selected to perform a 75 minute engagement as the Friday headlining act is Sean Paul. Sean Paul is a popular rapper and singer whose music helped to develop the genre of dancehall pop, a high energy blend of reggae and party music. He has won multiple awards, including a 2004 Grammy for Best Reggae Album and 2006 American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. He has had ten Billboard Hot 100 top ten hits, including four #1 singles. The cost for this talent is not to exceed $130,000. Funding for this entertainment agreement will come from the Hotel Fund.

The resolution approves the agreement between the Town of Addison and SPJ Productions LTD for the services of (f/s/o) Sean Paul for Taste Addison 2022.

At the time of posting, the finalized agreement had not ben received by the Town. A draft version of the agreement has been provided as an attachment. The finalized agreement will be made available at the Council meeting before the item is considered for action. We appreciate your understanding.

RECOMMENDATION:

Administration recommends approval.
