As the COVID-19 pandemic became a major concern in the spring of 2020, Town staff asked one of our janitorial companies to provide daytime disinfecting services (Day Porters) at Town facilities that remained open. In an effort to keep staff, residents and visitors safe and healthy, Day Porters use EPA approved chemical disinfectants to wipe down hard surfaces such as countertops, doorknobs, furniture, equipment, and restrooms. At the Athletic Club, the Day Porters disinfected the same hard surfaces plus continually disinfected the athletic and weight equipment.
The facility disinfecting service was implemented on an emergency basis because a year-long pandemic was not anticipated. With the pandemic continuing, staff released Request for Proposal (RFP) #21-54 to competitively bid the facility disinfecting services on January 19, 2021. The RFP closed on February 9, 2021. Nineteen (19) proposals were received.

Due to the increase in the availability of vaccinations, staff is not certain how much longer this level of disinfection service will be needed. Staff therefore no longer finds it prudent to enter into a new agreement. Staff intends to continue to use our current vendor to disinfect the facilities until such time these services are no longer deemed necessary. |
