AGENDA CAPTION:

Consider Action on a Resolution to Name Three Parks in the Addison Grove Development and Provide an Effective Date.

BACKGROUND:

On January 26, 2016, Council approved a letter of intent with Beltline Beltway Investments, Ltd. and Urban Intownhomes, LLC for the redevelopment of the former Sam's Club property for an amount not to exceed $6.5 Million for the construction of public infrastructure as part of the development. Included in that funding was the construction of public parkland, which includes three parks and two parklets.

On September 8, 2020, staff presented Council information about the proposed parks / parklets and asked Council for direction regarding the naming of the parks. Staff informed Council that the developer had assigned temporary names to the three parks to help reference them through design and construction. The two parklets had not been assigned a temporary name by the developer. The names assigned to the three parks are: The Grove Park, The Commons Park, and The Plaza Park. Staff also indicated the names proposed could comply with the Naming and Recognition Policy which states town facilities could be named after man-made or natural features. Council directed staff to prepare a resolution to adopt the names the developer has proposed for the parks and indicated the parklets should not be named but in the future could be considered part of the larger greenspace between Beltway Drive and the Addison Grove Development.

RECOMMENDATION:

Administration recommends approval.
